BIG BEAR CITY, Calif., June 29 (Our Hesperia) — One of Jackie and Shadow’s eaglets, Sandy, fell from the Big Bear bald eagle nest Sunday morning in what Friends of Big Bear Valley described as an accidental fledge, or “fludge,” as the nonprofit monitored the bird on its live camera.

The group said Sandy was flapping near the nest’s outer edge when she lost her footing, dropped to lower branches and moved out of the camera’s view. Friends of Big Bear Valley later said the eaglet appeared to be on another branch or in another tree and was likely getting her bearings or resting.

Jenny Voisard, the group’s media manager, told the Los Angeles Times that a security camera showed Sandy flying to another tree and that the nonprofit had not yet picked her up. Friends of Big Bear Valley said Jackie, Sandy’s mother, was nearby after the fall.

The nonprofit said Jackie and Shadow would follow Sandy and continue to feed and care for her, while camera operators kept searching for the eaglet. Sandy and her sibling Luna hatched in early April and were about 12 weeks old when the incident happened.
