NAPA, Calif., July 5 (Sonoma Times) — Napa County sheriff’s deputies said Paul Pelosi, 86, is being referred for possible misdemeanor hit-and-run charges after they say he struck a legally parked car in Yountville and drove away on July 3.

Deputies responded around 2:30 p.m. to the 6700 block of Yount Street, according to the sheriff’s office statement. The agency said Pelosi was later tracked down and admitted hitting something, but said he did not know what he had struck.

A preliminary alcohol screening test showed a 0.00 result, and deputies said driving under the influence was ruled out. The sheriff’s office said it did not arrest Pelosi, saying that is common for misdemeanor cases under California Penal Code section 853.6, and said the case was referred to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office for review.

The sheriff’s office also said a California DMV re-evaluation referral would be made. In a separate case, the Napa County District Attorney’s Office said in 2022 that it filed misdemeanor DUI-with-injury charges against Pelosi after a May 28, 2022 crash and said a blood sample showed a .082% blood alcohol content.
