SYDNEY, June 25 (World Daily Times) — Leah Stewart, the shark attack survivor injured at Coogee Beach in Sydney on June 13, woke from an induced coma after doctors reduced her sedation and removed her breathing tube, according to updates shared by her brother, Joshua Stewart.

Joshua Stewart said Leah was able to tell her mother and partner Fernando, “I love you,” while recovering in intensive care. Fox News reported the family update, and ABC News also reported that Leah briefly woke after the sedative was lowered.

Fox News reported that Leah had spent 10 days in an induced coma. ABC News said she had been in critical condition for 12 days and had undergone multiple surgeries, including one to remove her arm and treat other serious injuries.

In an update on Thursday, Joshua Stewart said Leah is now awake, no longer in critical condition and able to communicate with family and medical staff.

He also said Leah was reunited with her young daughter, August, for the first time since the attack. ABC News reported that it was the first night Leah and August had ever spent apart.
