Newman-Gomez leaves Hesperia High as one of the most accomplished players in program history. A four-year varsity athlete and three-time All-Mojave River League selection, he was named the 2025–2026 Mojave River League MVP after leading the Scorpions to a 24-9 overall record and a dominant 9-1 league finish. His leadership helped push the team deep into postseason play, including a CIF Sectional Division 2 Finals appearance and a run in the CIF State Division 1 playoffs.

His senior season statistics underscore his impact on the court, averaging 23 points, 18 rebounds, and contributing across the board defensively and offensively. Over his high school career, he totaled more than 1,700 points and 850 rebounds, placing him among the top performers to come through the High Desert in recent years.

Beyond athletics, Newman-Gomez exemplified the model of a disciplined student-athlete. He maintained a 4.6 GPA while completing 11 Advanced Placement and college-level courses, earning valedictorian honors for the Class of 2026. His academic record reflects a growing emphasis within Hesperia Unified School District on preparing students for both college and career success through rigorous coursework and accountability.

Hesperia High School’s basketball program has steadily gained recognition across Southern California, competing in increasingly higher divisions and producing athletes capable of performing at the collegiate level. The Scorpions’ recent success mirrors a broader trend within the Mojave River League, where High Desert programs have worked to elevate competition and visibility against larger urban schools.

At the collegiate level, Newman-Gomez joins an Idaho Vandals program experiencing renewed momentum. The team is coming off its first Big Sky Conference Tournament championship since 1990 and recently returned to the NCAA Tournament, signaling a resurgence for the program. His size, versatility, and academic discipline position him as a strong fit for a team looking to build sustained success.

For the Hesperia community, this milestone reflects the continued payoff of investment in local schools, athletics, and student development. Hesperia Unified School District, which serves more than 20,000 students, has emphasized a balance of academics, extracurricular opportunity, and community values—an approach increasingly producing graduates who succeed both in and out of the classroom.

Newman-Gomez is expected to report to Moscow, Idaho in June, where he will begin his collegiate academic and athletic career, representing both his hometown and the High Desert on a larger stage.
