WASHINGTON, June 25 (DC Times Online) — Visitors will be able to tour the Lincoln Memorial’s hidden undercroft in Washington, D.C., when the National Park Service opens the 15,000-square-foot exhibit space to the public on June 25.
The space has been closed to visitors since the memorial opened in 1922. The park service said the underground area will feature interactive exhibits and multimedia presentations on the monument’s construction and its place in American history and civil rights.
Tickets are free but require a $1 service fee for advance reservations. They can be booked through Recreation.gov or by calling 877-444-6777, and same-day tickets will be distributed beginning at 8:45 a.m. at the Korean War Veterans Memorial kiosk on Daniel Chester French Drive, just south of the Lincoln Memorial.
The National Park Service said the project is funded in partnership with the National Park Foundation.
