WASHINGTON, June 15 (DC Times Online) — Sen. Mitch McConnell was admitted to a Washington hospital on the morning of June 14, his office said, and was still working with staff on Senate matters two days later while “receiving excellent care.”

David Popp, McConnell’s spokesperson, said the Kentucky senator was hospitalized Sunday morning. Popp did not say why McConnell was admitted or identify the hospital.

On June 16, Popp said McConnell was “fully engaged with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters.”

McConnell, 84, was also hospitalized earlier this year. On Feb. 2, he checked himself into a local hospital for evaluation after experiencing “flu-like symptoms” over the prior weekend, Popp said at the time.

McConnell was discharged on Feb. 10, according to Popp. After that release, Popp said McConnell was feeling better and would work from home for the rest of that week on doctors’ advice.

McConnell’s office has not publicly released further details about his condition from the June hospitalization beyond saying he was receiving excellent care.
