Suzette Martinez Valladares

Valladares, who served in the State Assembly from 2020 to 2022, built her campaign on a platform rooted in fiscal responsibility and community engagement. She pledged to reduce the cost of living for middle-class families, cut state taxes and energy rates, and champion tax credits for renters and parents. Valladares attracted endorsements from local leaders in the Santa Clarita, Antelope, and Victor Valleys, as well as key organizations such as the Association of Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs and the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association.

Kipp Mueller

Mueller, a workers’ rights attorney, ran on a progressive agenda focusing on labor advocacy, consumer protection, and social justice. His campaign received strong backing from unions representing teachers, nurses, state workers, and building trades, raising over $2.3 million. The California Democratic Party invested more than $860,000 into his campaign, underscoring the party’s determination to claim the seat.
Key Factors in the Election Outcome

  • Voter Registration Dynamics: Despite a 10% Democratic voter registration advantage in the district, Valladares’ legislative experience and deep community connections appear to have swayed undecided voters.
  • Campaign Funding and Endorsements: Both candidates benefited from robust fundraising efforts and high-profile endorsements. Valladares’ backing from law enforcement and taxpayer advocacy groups resonated strongly with conservative and moderate voters.
  • Candidate Profiles: Valladares’ Assembly tenure gave her an edge in legislative expertise and name recognition, while Mueller’s legal background and focus on workers’ rights energized labor groups and progressive supporters.

The combination of Valladares’ strategic endorsements, campaign focus on middle-class economic relief, and extensive local ties proved decisive in this closely watched contest.

Our Hesperia confidently calls this race for Suzette Martinez Valladares.
