Annual event highlights teamwork, student talent, and hometown pride

Hesperia, California (Our Hesperia) – The Hesperia Unified School District welcomed business owners, civic officials, and community partners this week for its annual Principal for the Day event—an opportunity for local leaders to experience firsthand the responsibilities, successes, and daily challenges of school administrators across Hesperia’s campuses.
A Day of Shared Experience
Each year, “Principal for the Day” offers Hesperia residents a behind-the-scenes look at the district’s campuses, where principals and teachers work daily to prepare students for future success. Participants shadow school leaders, tour classrooms, and see academic, athletic, and vocational programs in action. The event reflects a long-standing district commitment to transparency and collaboration with community stakeholders.
A Backyard BBQ to Remember
At the end of the day, a celebratory luncheon brought everyone together at the Hesperia Unified District Office. The event wasn’t just a catered meal—it was an impressive showcase of local talent. CTE Culinary students from Hesperia High, Oak Hills High, Sultana High, Mojave High, and Canyon Ridge High planned, prepared, and served an authentic “Backyard BBQ” complete with smoky tri-tip, creamy mac and cheese, and fresh watermelon.
Students at the Center

The luncheon served as more than a meal; it was a demonstration of how CTE programs connect classroom learning with real-world application. For years, HUSD’s vocational programs have helped students develop practical skills while supporting community events, job preparedness, and local business partnerships.
Community and School Pride
Since its introduction more than a decade ago, the Principal for the Day program has become a valued tradition in Hesperia, strengthening ties between schools and the community. With each passing year, the event highlights what many local residents already know—Hesperia’s strength begins with its schools, its dedicated educators, and its engaged citizens.
