Local elementary and high schoolers collected over $2,500 in joint fundraisers to support the Hesperia Animal Shelter and St Mary Medical Center Foundation

Hesperia, California (Our Hesperia) – Hesperia students raise funds for animal shelter and local medical center, collecting more than $2,500 through charity events this spring.
Student-Driven Fundraisers Benefit Community
Hesperia students demonstrated outstanding community spirit by organizing fundraisers this spring.
They focused on two causes: the Hesperia Animal Shelter and the St Mary Medical Center Foundation.
Combined, their efforts brought in over $2,500 to support both local institutions.
Bowling for a Cause: High School Initiative
Members of the Hesperia High School Career Technical Education (CTE) Advanced Business class planned and ran a charity bowling tournament.
Students handled marketing, ticket sales, and event logistics at the local bowling alley.
Their work paid off with a $2,000 donation to the Hesperia Animal Shelter.
Carmel Elementary’s Donation to St Mary
At Carmel Elementary School, the student council sold candy grams and hosted a family dance event.
They raised $500 to benefit women and children through the St Mary Medical Center Foundation.
Susana Vasquez of St Mary Medical Center accepted the check during a school assembly.
City Honors Student Efforts
Hesperia Mayor Allison Lee joined students at a City Council meeting to recognize their work.
These young leaders show us what real community service looks like,” the mayor said.
City officials also presented certificates to student organizers from both Hesperia High and Carmel Elementary.
Impact on the Hesperia Animal Shelter
The $2,000 contribution will purchase food, bedding, and toys for shelter animals waiting for adoption.
Shelter staff say these supplies ease daily operations and improve animal welfare.
Volunteers have already begun stocking up, ensuring no animal goes without care.
Looking Ahead: Inspiring Youth Engagement
School leaders hope these fundraisers spark more student-led charity work in Hesperia.
Plans are underway for a spring art sale and a summer reading drive for local libraries.
Organizers encourage all students to find causes they care about and take the lead.
