Modern facility at Hesperia High School aims to enrich education, strengthen community ties

Hesperia, Calif. (Our Hesperia) – Hesperia Unified School District marked a major milestone this week with the grand opening of the Hesperia High School Center for the Arts — a new facility designed to elevate arts education and provide valuable community resources. The center, located at 9898 Maple Avenue, reflects a growing local investment in preparing students for real-world careers in performance, production, and public service.

A New Chapter in Hesperia Education

The Hesperia High School Center for the Arts stands as one of the most ambitious education projects completed by the district in recent years. Featuring a 500-seat theater, a 38-foot LED backdrop, and advanced professional audio and lighting systems, the facility creates opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience in performing arts and event production.

In addition to theater programs, the center supports choir, band, and multimedia studies, offering students an environment that mirrors professional studios and performance venues. These improvements represent a significant step in the district’s mission of “Preparing Today’s Students for Tomorrow’s World,” a guiding principle that has shaped Hesperia schools for more than three decades.

Serving Both Students and the Community

Beyond its value to education, the Center for the Arts will serve as a shared resource for families and local organizations. The facility includes multipurpose areas for meetings, performances, and community events, as well as a small medical clinic designed to support student and family wellness. This dual-purpose approach reflects Hesperia Unifier’s focus on whole-student learning — encouraging academic success alongside physical and emotional well-being. This project for Eric Swanson, HUSD School Board President, was 25 years in the making. “This school came from the Victor Valley Unified School District and my goal when I first got elected in 2001 was to get this school a stadium, science wing and a performing art center.”  The stadium and science wing was built in the mid 200s.

Local civic and business leaders joined district officials and students for the April 8 ribbon-cutting ceremony. Guests toured the facility, enjoyed performances from student groups, and sampled hors d’oeuvres prepared by Hesperia High’s culinary arts students, underscoring the wide range of career pathways supported within the district. “This center is not only great for this school, but for the school district, City and the High Desert. This center helps bring the arts to the the entire valley” said Swanson.

A Legacy of Growth and Innovation

Hesperia High School, established in 1984, has long served as a foundational part of the city’s educational and cultural life. Over the years, the school has expanded its academic programs in step with the region’s growth, introducing career technical education, college readiness initiatives, and community engagement projects.

The Center for the Arts represents the latest stage in that progress — merging traditional arts education with modern technology and civic partnership. By connecting classroom learning with practical experience, Hesperia Unified continues to strengthen its commitment to preparing students for success in college, careers, and community leadership.
