FLINT, Mich., June 28 (Our Michigan Times) — Genesee County prosecutors have charged Damien O’Brien and Jessica O’Brien in the death of their 7-year-old son, Casper O’Brien, with second-degree murder, torture and child abuse, court records show.

The charges stem from Casper’s death on Nov. 4, 2025, after a 911 call from the family’s Flint Township home reported that he was not breathing, according to law enforcement officials and court documents. Court records cited in coverage say the boy weighed 255 pounds when he died.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said in a statement that investigators believe the child was neglected. “These parents, I believe, neglected this child to the point that he became obese,” Leyton said, according to the statement cited in coverage.

The public record excerpts available in the reporting do not include a defense response or the full charging document. The case remains in Genesee County court.
