CUPERTINO, Calif., June 8 (Infinite Headlines) — Apple used its WWDC 2026 keynote on June 8 to introduce iOS 27 and a rebuilt voice assistant called Siri AI, marking one of the company’s clearest moves yet to put artificial intelligence at the center of its software.

The event began at 10 a.m. PT at Apple Park in California. Apple said developer releases of its new operating systems would be available June 8, with broader public releases planned for the fall. That means most users should treat the features as announced, not fully shipped to the public yet.

Here is what changed, what devices are expected to support the new software, and where the rollout has limits.

What is Siri AI?

Siri AI is Apple’s new version of Siri, the voice assistant built into Apple devices. During the keynote, Apple presented it as a major rebuild rather than a small update.

Apple executive Mike Rockwell said during the presentation that Apple had “rebuilt Siri with powerful AI at the core” and was introducing “an entirely new version of Siri.” He added: “We call it Siri AI.”

Apple said the assistant is meant to be more conversational and better able to act on what is happening on a user’s device. The company also said Siri AI has its own standalone app and is natively multimodal. In plain terms, multimodal AI can work with more than one kind of input or context, such as a spoken request and information shown on a screen.

One practical change Apple showed: Siri AI can respond to what is on the user’s screen and take actions based on that context. Apple also showed Siri AI surfacing through the Dynamic Island on iPhone, the small interactive area at the top of some recent iPhone screens. Users can still call up Siri with “Hey Siri” or the side button, Apple said.

What is iOS 27?

iOS 27 is the next major version of Apple’s iPhone operating system. Apple announced it alongside updates for other platforms, including iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Vision Pro.

Apple said iOS 27 includes performance improvements. Figures presented from the keynote included new photos appearing 70% faster and AirDrop transfers running 80% faster. Apple also said CPU scheduling, which helps manage how a device handles tasks, has been improved for multitasking.

Apple also said Apple Intelligence features are being added or expanded in apps including Safari, Messages, Passwords, Shortcuts and Home.

Will every iPhone that gets iOS 27 also get Siri AI?

No. This is one of the most important distinctions in Apple’s announcement.

Apple said iOS 27 would be available for devices from the iPhone 11 onward. But Apple’s eligibility language for Apple Intelligence and Siri AI is narrower.

For Siri AI and Apple Intelligence, Apple listed support for iPhone 16 models or later, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The company also listed iPad mini with A17 Pro, iPads with M1 or later, Macs with M1 or later, Apple Vision Pro, Apple Watch Series 10 or later, Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later, and Apple Watch SE 3 when paired with a nearby iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence.

That means an older iPhone may be able to install iOS 27 but not get the full Siri AI feature set.

When will people get it?

Apple said developer releases and betas of its new operating systems would be available June 8. Apple also said Siri AI would be ready for developer testing later that day.

The public release is planned for fall 2026, according to Apple’s WWDC timing. Until then, the software should be understood as in testing or preview stages, depending on the version.

What languages and countries are included first?

Apple said Siri AI will launch in English first, with more languages coming later.

The company also said Siri AI will not be immediately available in the European Union on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27. In a statement quoted from Apple, the company said: “Unfortunately, due to the Digital Markets Act (DMA), Apple will not be able to ship Siri AI in the European Union with the release of iOS 27 and iPadOS 27.”

Apple also said availability in China is delayed while the company works through regulatory requirements there.

The announcement does not provide a full country-by-country rollout list. The confirmed limits are the initial English-language launch and the delays tied to the European Union and China.

How is Apple framing privacy?

Apple executives emphasized privacy in presenting the new AI features. Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president, said during the WWDC stream: “We believe privacy in AI is non-negotiable.”

Apple also said data is used to carry out the user’s request and that outside experts can verify its privacy promises. The materials reviewed for this article did not include independent testing, a full technical breakdown of on-device versus cloud processing, or third-party validation of Apple’s claims.

Why does the U.S. launch context matter?

The announcement happened in the United States at Apple Park, and Apple tied the first step of the rollout to WWDC developer testing on June 8. For app makers, businesses and users watching the Apple ecosystem, the immediate change is not that every feature is now live for the public. It is that Apple has opened the testing path for developers while setting expectations for a fall public release.

The U.S. event also stands in contrast to the delayed rollouts Apple described for the European Union and China. Those delays show that AI assistant features are not only a device issue; they are also shaped by regional rules on competition, privacy and technology platforms.

What is still unknown?

Apple’s keynote answered the broad product questions: Siri is being rebuilt as Siri AI, iOS 27 is coming in the fall, and the most advanced AI features require newer hardware.

But several technical details remain unclear from the available material. Apple did not provide, in the reviewed sources, full developer documentation, model-size details, a complete on-device-versus-cloud processing breakdown, enterprise controls, or benchmark methods for the performance claims.

For now, the safest summary is this: iOS 27 is the broad software update, while Siri AI is the narrower AI upgrade that depends on newer Apple hardware, starts in English, begins with developer testing, and has delayed availability in some major markets.
